Melissa Twomey
Melissa Twomey has widespread experience in supporting clients and their families with issues pertaining to anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships and childhood disorders. Melissa helps clients examine interpersonal relationships and explores their coping skills in different aspects of their lives. Melissa Twomey works collaboratively with her clients to develop an integrated approach to treatment that is tailored to the particular goals and interests of her clients.
Melissa is known for her warm and inviting therapeutic style, by creating a safe environment for all clients to explore their experiences. She uses a multidimensional approach combining Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy, as well as Self-Regulation Therapy for clients who have and continue to experience trauma. This specialization in trauma includes car accidents, medical procedures, relational, developmental, violence in relationship and sexual assaults. She works specifically with individuals experiencing PTSD due to traumatic life events.
Melissa completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and her undergrad from the University of British Columbia Okanagan. She is registered with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (12685). Melissa has received post Masters training in Self-Regulation Therapy to assist clients with traumatic experiences.
